Luxury hotel Andaz 5th Avenue introduces the fourth artist, John Hung Ha, in its tbd Art series, a rotating art residency. Each artist paints his or her “View of New York Today” on the doors leading to the bar downstairs, which open onto Fifth Avenue. Inspired by the art and culture of New York City, Andaz 5th Avenue has featured four diverse artists including John Hung Ha, Claw Money, Mister Cartoon and M.Dreeland.

Ha, famous for his signature Koi paintings, began his work on June 8, and will reside in an Andaz Suite for one week while completing his mural. The project is curated by the SA Studios Artist Collective, and art enthusiasts can watch the artists at work and read about their experiences by visiting the hotel’s Tumblog.

“My colorful pop art is larger than life and inspires good energy,” said Ha. “I feel the same can be said of New York City, a bustling, vibrant metropolis with a mix of so many cultures. Andaz 5th Avenue has inspired me to create a canvas that combines these elements, and I am looking forward to this experience.”

The step-by-step creation of the murals will be chronicled by photographer Brendan Burke on the Andaz 5th Avenue Tumblog, which will also feature blog entries from the

artists regarding their work and their experiences creating each of their murals. Additionally, each piece of art will be photographed and turned into limited edition post cards sold for $5.00 each at the bar downstairs. Proceeds will be donated to the High School of Art & Design.

“Art is an integral part of Andaz 5th Avenue and we strive to find new ways to support art and design,” said Jonathan Frolich, general manager of Andaz 5th Avenue. “We are delighted to feature the tbd Art program with such a diverse group of talented artists so that guests and New Yorkers alike can experience a unique view of New York City at Andaz 5th Avenue.”
